SERVICE ABOVE SELF
Founded in 1928, the Branford Rotary Club of Connecticut is a volunteer organization of business and professional women and men who want to make a positive difference in the community. We are a hands-on club, helping those in need in Branford, across the shoreline and around the world. Our passionate members are dedicated to the Rotary motto, 'Service Above Self.'
We annually provide more than $40,000 to area charities and organizations thanks to our fundraisers - The Golf Classic, the Branford Festival pancake breakfast and lobster dinner, the Classic Car Show, and the Rotary/YMCA Thanksgiving 5k and Fun Run. The money we raise goes to food pantries and veterans groups, family counseling and literacy programs, senior care and cancer research.
We also give our time and effort to great causes such as:
- Feed Our Neighbors
- Salvation Army bell ringing
- Branford Land Trust Clean Up
- Raise the Roof/Habitat for Humanity
- Take a Vet Fishing
In addition, every December, the Branford Rotary Club sponsors, cooks and serves a holiday dinner for 175 Branford seniors, and each fall we host a lunch for 100 local veterans to honor our men and women in uniform. We also annually provide $7,500 in scholarships for high school students from Branford who wish to pursue higher education. We even drive Santa to the town green for the annual Tree Lighting!
SERVICE AND MORE
In addition to fundraising and projects, we provide substantial scholarships for Branford students to pursue higher education, and we honor a student-of-the-month at Branford High School.
As part of Rotary International, one of the world’s largest service organizations with 1.2 million members, Branford Rotary is also involved globally, working on projects to provide clean water, improve education and, most famously, help in the fight against polio. Since 1988, Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign (EndPolio.org) has immunized more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries and reduced polio cases worldwide by 99.9 percent.
And Branford Rotarians don’t just give; they go. Every year, Rotarians travel abroad to assist local initiatives. For 2018, five Branford members traveled to Kenya for two weeks to work on a local school project.
The club, which celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2018, has a membership of 80 Rotarians who reside or work in Branford. If you or your business would like to support us by becoming a Rotary Partner, please contact visit our Rotary Partner's page, or email foundation@BranfordRotary.org.
